When you release a full project, every song needs to sit at the same level and share the same character. Mastering songs separately, on different days or by different people, is how albums end up uneven.

Most albums are not made in one stretch. Track three was cut in a friend's room two winters ago, track seven came out of a proper studio last month, and two of them were mixed by different people. On their own each mix can be fine. Played back to back, the seams show: one song is brighter, another sits quieter, the low end moves around.
Mastering the record together is what closes those gaps. We listen across all eight songs first and pick the tonal centre the album should sit in, then move each track toward it: pulling harshness out of the bright one, adding weight to the thin one, matching the perceived level so no song makes the listener reach for the volume.
Loudness is set for the album, not per track. Streaming platforms turn everything down to their own reference anyway, so pushing every song to its individual ceiling gains nothing and costs you dynamics. What matters is that the quietest song and the loudest song belong to the same record.
There is a limit to this, and it is worth saying plainly: mastering can close a gap, not rebuild a mix. If one of your mixes is genuinely fighting the others, your engineer will tell you rather than squeeze it, and our mixing service can fix it properly first.
A record is not eight singles in a folder. The moment one song ends and the next begins is part of the listening experience, and it is the part nobody masters when songs are sent off one at a time.
We master to your track order. Each song is trimmed at the head and tail so it starts when it should, and the gap between tracks is set deliberately: a long breath after a heavy closer, a tight half second when two songs are meant to feel joined. Where a track should run straight into the next, we build a crossfade instead of a gap, so the album plays gapless rather than stopping and restarting.
Send your intended running order with the files and we sequence to it. If you are unsure about the order, say so in your notes and your engineer will tell you what the transitions are doing, because you can hear a bad sequence far more easily once the levels match.
