Mixing and Mastering FAQ

Pricing, turnaround, revisions and file formats, the answers artists ask most.

Mixing and Mastering

Why does my project need fresh ears?
After working on countless songs and albums, mastering engineers develop an acute sense of sonic and musical knowledge that is key to successful mastering. It is also a huge plus that the mastering engineer wasn’t there when you recorded and mixed your album. Hearing your songs for the first time, a fresh pair of ears can offer truly objective advice.
How do I know it will sound better?
You always have input into how your project sounds, and we will do everything we can to make your audio project sound incredible.
Digital or Analogue?
To be able to provide you with the best quality services, great affordable rates and fast turnarounds, all our services are Analogue and Digital! Using the industries absolute best hardware and software/plugins, we can provide an excellent analogue OR digital sound to your mixes and masters.
What is the difference between mixing and mastering?
Mixing is basically tinkering with everything you have recorded to complete your songs. Well do things like drop in effects, adjust fader, EQ your tracks and so on. Think of mixing as putting the puzzle together. Were putting together the parts of what you have recorded, making sure everything hangs together right and putting some finishing touches on things. When were done mixing your songs, you should be pleased with the way the song sounds and feel confident that you dont need to add anything musically. Mastering is the process of taking a recording and enhancing it to its fullest potential. It’s the fine-tuning that makes your track sound as “big” and as “clear” as possible without compromising the original feel of the song. This also makes the album sound unified. When you send us your audio for mastering services, your tracks will be analyzed by an experienced mastering engineer in one of our acoustically treated mastering studios. After we get an overall impression of the existing sound balance, your project is then professionally mastered using an appropriate chain of top-drawer analogue and digital mastering tools.
Why should I have my audio mastered?
Mastering is the final step in bringing your recording to its optimum potential. It gives your music the professional commercial quality necessary to compete nationally and globally. No matter if your audio is planned for radio, CD/cassette duplication, CD Rom/ DVD authoring or publishing to the world wide web, it must be mastered to take full advantage of the media in which it is to be released.
What is the process?
To be able to provide you with great affordable rates and fast turnaround, all our services are completely digital and analogue processed. Using the industries absolute best software, plugins and analogue gears, we can provide an excellent digital OR analogue sound to your mixes AND/OR masters. We work in a private studio with top quality computing systems, hardware and monitors and we have over 15+ years’ experience mixing and mastering every genre of music. Once we receive your material and payment, we begin to prepare and work on your project right away. Mixes are usually mixed completely then we rest our ears for a day and come back for anything missed. Before the mix is finalized, we will send you the mix in mp3 format for your review, if any changes are needed to be made, we will make them and send the mix back. This process repeats until you confirm the mix is complete and to your satisfaction. Masters are tested on over four (4) pairs of high-end monitors and numerous sound systems such as an iPod (mp3 player), car stereo, Laptop speakers and a boom box, to make sure you are getting the best possible sound on every playback device! Your files will be delivered to you in a personal private Dropbox folder shared between us. You can choose to delete the files and folder or keep it to transfer material in the future if needed.
What Will I Receive?
Once your project is completed, you will receive a high quality MP3 & WAV file of your Mixed and/ or Mastered song, along with any add-ons you have ordered. WE WILL NOT send you a copy of the session where we mixed and mastered. Although we can send individual stems of your project at extra cost. Every mix and master session includes: equalization - compression - reverb - peak limiting - adding ambiance - stereo widening - bass enhancement - loudness - maximization - dynamic expansion - fades/crossfades editing - minor flaws - noise reduction - to eliminate clicks, dropouts and "Hiss" text/isrc encoding + album art.
What is a ISRC and how do I obtain one?
Please Note: ISRC is not required to use our services. The International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) is an international standard code for uniquely identifying sound recordings and music video recordings. The code was developed by the recording industry in conjunction with the ISO technical committee 46, subcommittee 9 (TC 46/SC 9), which codified the standard as ISO 3901 in 1986, and updated it in 2001. An ISRC code identifies a particular recording, not the work (composition and lyrical content) itself. Therefore, different recordings, edits, and remixes of the same work should each have their own ISRC code. Works are identified by ISWC codes. Recordings remastered without significant audio-quality changes should retain their existing ISRC codes, but the threshold is left to the discretion of the record company. The provision of ISRCs is overseen by appointed national ISRC agencies. These national ISRC agencies issue codes directly to the public and may also utilize authorized ISRC Managers to issue ISRCs. In the United States, the appointed agency is RIAA. ISRC codes can be obtained directly from RIAA for an administrative fee ($80 at time of this publication) or from a commercial ISRC manager. [4] Only in territories where there is no national ISRC agency does IFPI provide codes to users. To obtain an ISRC in your country please click this link --> http://isrc.ifpi.org/contact/national-agency-contacts#A
What’s the difference between Dolby Atmos mixing & mastering and Stereo mixing & mastering?
Stereo Mixing & Mastering - Format: 2 channels (Left + Right). Mixing: - You place instruments, vocals, and effects within a left-right sound field. - Depth is created with EQ, reverb, and panning tricks, but everything still comes out of only two speakers (or headphones). Mastering: - Optimizes the stereo track for playback across systems (car, headphones, speakers, streaming platforms). - Ensures balance, loudness, and clarity in a 2-channel environment. End result: A polished stereo track that sounds good everywhere but still limited to left and right playback. Dolby Atmos Mixing & Mastering (Immersive / 3D Audio) - Format: Up to 128 audio objects + a bed (usually 7.1.2 channels). Mixing: - Instead of just left and right, you place sounds in a 3D space (above, behind, all around the listener). - Vocals can stay centered, while instruments, synths, or FX can move around or hover above. - Feels immersive, like you’re inside the song. Mastering: - Focuses on ensuring the Atmos mix translates across devices (cinemas, Atmos-enabled speakers, AirPods, soundbars). - Maintains spatial accuracy while also downmixing properly into stereo for devices without Atmos. End result: A multi-dimensional experience, the listener feels surrounded by the music instead of just hearing it in front of them.

What Audio Mixing Mastering Better Than The Rest?
We are the leader in Online Mixing and Mastering and have been the first to provide this breaking new service to the entire world. Before us the only way artists would be able to have their music Professioanlly Mixed and Mastered was to book and pay for both an hourly (if not multiple) studio session(s) and an engineer. We were the FIRST to provide the same professional services online for more than half the cost and at the comfort of your own home. Our company began in 2010, since then weve been the #1 Online Mixing and Mastering Service for 12 years straight. Unfortunately being number 1 has its consequences, since starting the company there have been lots of other Mixing and Mastering websites popping up all over the internet, most being run by engineers who truely have no professional experince in their craft but are just looking to make a quick buck and leaving YOU with unprofessinal results. Most of these sites have cloned everything weve built to LOOK like the real deal but are really just horrible copies. Its rare to find a company who truely cares about the artist. Our services are low priced because we care more about the music than the money. We enjoy our job and enjoy satisfying our clients. We dedicate our time learing your needs and doing everything we can to give you a product you can be proud of for years to come. Our team wants to build long lasting relationships with our clients and wants to see everyone succeed. You are guarenteed to get this at AudioMixingMastering.com and we have the clients, testimonials, reviews and most of all the WORK to prove it. We are the original and always will be. For True Professional Online Mixing and Mastering there is only ONE name you can TRUST. Audio Mixing Mastering B.V.

This in turn means a much lower price to our clients.

What is your refund policy?

Two simple rules:

Before you use your order - if you have paid for an order or credit that you have not used yet and no engineer has started work, you can request a full refund of that unused order.

Once work has started - the order is no longer refundable. Instead, every order includes unlimited free revisions within the scope of your original order, at no extra cost, until it is completed to your brief.

Unlimited revisions cover level, balance and effect adjustments and changes to your original instructions. They do not cover new songs, new files, or work outside the original order, which are treated as new orders. Rush add-ons are non-refundable once work has started.
